The Best Leaders Never Stop Giving Back

I honestly wish I had something like this when I was in high school.

Seriously.

On March 25th, I had the privilege of joining the 2026 Smithtown Women's Leadership Conference, where over 60 incredible students spent the day connecting with women from all different careers and industries. And let me tell you...the energy in that room was contagious.

There were entrepreneurs, executives, educators, community leaders, business owners, journalists - you name it. But what stood out the most wasn't who was in the room.

It was how eager these students were to learn.

They asked thoughtful questions. They listened and wanted the real stories - not just the highlight reel.

And I loved every second of it.

From Pizza Shops to Marketing Agency Owner

One of my favorite parts of speaking with students is watching their faces when I tell them...

"I used to work in pizzerias."

Yep! 😂

For years, I worked the lunch rush, the dinner rush, answered phones (the ones attached to the wall with cords!), took orders, slid pizzas into ovens, packed food, and somehow managed to count back change without making a mistake.

It was organized chaos.

Looking back now, I realize those jobs taught me more than I ever gave them credit for.

They taught me how to communicate under pressure.

How to solve problems quickly.

How to work with a team.

How to serve people.

How to hustle.

I didn't know it then, but those experiences were preparing me to become an entrepreneur years later.

Funny how life works, isn't it?

It's Okay Not to Have It All Figured Out

One thing I really wanted every student to hear was this...

You do not need to have your entire life planned out at 17.

Or 25.

Or honestly...even 35.

I wanted to be a teacher.

Life had other plans.

Today, I own a marketing agency, speak at conferences, coach business owners, mentor entrepreneurs, and somehow...I still became a teacher.

Just in a completely different classroom.

Sometimes your biggest detours become your greatest purpose.

Every pivot.

Every mistake.

Every "What am I doing?" moment.

They're all building something inside of you.

Resilience.

Confidence.

Perspective.

And trust me...you'll need all three.

The Four Pillars That Really Stuck With Me

This year's conference focused on four simple but powerful words:

Leadership. Integrity. Positivity. Perseverance.

Honestly?

Those aren't just great themes for students.

They're great reminders for all of us.

Whether you're building a business, leading a team, raising a family, or figuring out your next chapter, those four things never go out of style.

Success isn't about having the perfect path.

It's about continuing to show up, even when the path changes.

The Room Was Filled With People Who Wanted to Give

One of my favorite moments wasn't even during my own conversations.

It was looking around the room.

Watching successful women freely share their stories.

Cheering each other on.

Giving advice.

Being vulnerable.

Showing students that success doesn't happen overnight.

That's powerful.

We hear so much about networking these days, but this wasn't networking for business.

This was networking for impact.

That's something I'll never forget.

Your Story Is More Valuable Than You Think

If there's one thing I hope those students walked away with, it's this:

Your story matters.

Even the messy chapters.

Especially the messy chapters.

The struggles you're facing today may become the advice someone else needs tomorrow.

You don't have to wait until you've "made it" to encourage someone.

Sometimes sharing where you've been is exactly what someone else needs to hear.

Final Thoughts

I left Smithtown High School feeling incredibly grateful.

Grateful for the opportunity.

Grateful for the conversations.

Grateful to stand alongside so many inspiring women who continue to invest in the next generation.

If you ever have the opportunity to mentor, speak, volunteer, or simply encourage someone who's just starting out...

Take it.

You never know whose confidence you're helping build.

And who knows?

Years from now, one of those students may be mentoring the next generation because someone once believed in them.

That's how leadership grows.

One conversation at a time. 💚
